At the beginning of 2026, the Second Wind Club community organized a two-day mountain trip to the winter Carpathians for servicemen and veterans with amputations.
Purpose of the trip
The purpose of the trip was to train in winter mountain conditions, adapt to difficult terrain, and develop physical endurance and psychological resilience. 17 Ukrainian defenders with different levels of amputations and physical fitness took part in the event. On the first day, they climbed from the Zaroslyak base to the Pozhyzhevsk weather station. The next day, they were divided into groups according to their level of experience. Part of the group, which regularly trains and participates in Second Wind Club programs, climbed the highest point in Ukraine — Hoverla (2061 m).

Difficult weather conditions became a serious test: the snow depth in some places reached two meters, and the route had to be laid literally step by step.
articipants worked with ice axes and trekking poles, practiced teamwork and movement skills in a difficult winter environment.
Among the participants of the trip is Levitate Ambassador Christopher Greenwood, a British military veteran who has a lower leg amputation and uses the Levitate Forever active prosthetic foot.
“Mountain trips are not only a physical activity, but also an important element of recovery through movement, nature, and community support”, – the veteran shares.
Organizers emphasize that such events are part of a systemic approach to the rehabilitation of veterans with amputees. They help restore connection with their own bodies, strengthen confidence in movement, and form a community where mutual support is as important as physical training.
«Mountains are honest. They don’t ask who you are. But they always make you feel: with those you trust, it’s easier. Even when it’s hard», — saying in the Second Wind Club.
